Debuting as an emotionally-charged pop-punk outfit, Philadelphia's Grayscale delivered a fiery blend of raw, hook-laden anthems reminiscent of similar acts such as State Champs and All Time Low. Early 2010s EPs slowly built to their first official full-length, 2017's Adornment. By the time 2019's Nella Vita arrived, their sound had incorporated melodic pop flourishes and radio-friendly accessibility. By 2020, that stylistic shift had further taken hold, heard on shiny singles such as "Diamond" and "Babylon (Say It to My Face)."

Founded in 2011 around the talents of (then) high school students vocalist Collin Walsh, lead guitarist Andrew Kyne, rhythm guitarist and backup vocalist Dallas Molster, bassist Nick Ventimiglia, and drummer Nick Veno, the group self-released its debut effort, Leaving, in 2013. Two years later they signed to Anchor Eighty Four, which released the EPs Change and What We're Missing. In 2017 they inked a deal with Fearless Records and issued the Kyle Black-produced Adornment, which they considered their debut full-length proper. 

In 2019, they issued their sophomore set, Nella Vita, which was led by the cathartic single "In Violet." Veering further into pop territory, they struck a balance similar to late-era moves by All Time Low and Paramore, adding bright synths, shimmering production, and dance beats to the mix.
