Son Rompe Pera

The Gama brothers grew up on the outskirts of Mexico City, where they spent their childhood playing the marimba with their father at weddings and parties. Although they turned their backs on the instrument as teenagers in favor of punk and psychobilly, they eventually returned to their roots. The result is Son Rompe Pera: a band that blends the traditional marimba with a punk ethos.With their self-proclaimed genre, cumbia punk, Son Rompe Pera delivers a rebellious, high-energy fusion that leads to their now-infamous "marimba moshpits." Following their 2020 debut, they released the album Chimborazo in March 2023, named after the street where the brothers live. The record features twelve original tracks and showcases an eclectic mix of cumbia, psychedelic guitars, and even hints of dub and hip-hop.At Tolhuistuin, we’re aiming for the most moshpits ever seen at a cumbia show.
